Australian Football League of the Northern Territory (AFL NT) – Yolŋu trainees
The funding for AFL Trainee is for Yolŋu people in Galiwin’ku to assist with running the AFL in Galiwin’ku.
The AFL will be running Wednesday to Sunday including with AUS Kick and at homelands. Galiwin’ku has the most teams and AFL activities in the region and the funding for Yolŋu trainees will allow the community to build capacity to manage AFL with less external input. Yolŋu employees will assist with running Aus Kick, supporting children at FaFT and Preschool, engaging with homelands, umpiring and managing the match and oval.
The project has already seen engagement of families, improvement of school attendance and yolŋu employment.
This project is delivered by AFL-NT with designated funds from the Stronger Communities for Children initiative, facilitated in Galiwin’ku by Yalu Aboriginal Corporation.
