Respectful Behaviours Program

Women's and children's safety and wellbeing is at the core of the Respectful Behaviour Program (RBP). The aim of the RBP is to bring about longterm social and cultural change to prevent Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence (DFSV) from occurring in the first place.

The RBP challenges cultural misinformation, which leads to acceptance of ‘lateral violence’ - a common denominator of DFSV in remote Aboriginal communities. Lateral violence is not only perpetrated by males. Females are also often accountable for attributing blame to the victim, rather than the perpetrator. Many misguidedly choose to ‘settle the family way’ which often blames the victim for the perpetrator's violence, leaving them powerless to get support while entrenching the perpetrator's behaviour.
